10 Questions with Sinem Kılıc Rabito
1. Tell us about yourself
My name is Sinem Kılıc Rabito I am living in a small town in Italy. My passion for drawing started when I was a child. As a child, I was always surrounded by crayons and was doodling my own stories.
2. How and when did you start illustrating?
I have been working as a freelance Children’s Book Illustrator since 2019.
Earlier on, I used to paint on canvas with oil colours, pastels, water colours. I then decided to move to digital drawings during the pandemic. This helped me greatly with the restrictions we had at that time. It also helped to keep me busy besides being a mom of a 2-year-old. The time at home also allowed me to cultivate my passion for drawing and I worked on creating my own personal style.
I work on my drawings everyday either for my clients or for my own portfolio.
3. What do you like about illustrating?
I love creating colourful and cute illustrations. My artwork is strongly inspired by nature, where I love spending time with my family.
4. How did you meet the author Serene?
I am so happy she wanted to work with me. She found me on Instagram and showed interest in my artwork, so she contacted me and we started planning her book.
5. What ideas did you have when thinking of the illustrations for “Mommy, Mommy, Where Is The Moon?”
I tried to find the best way to show with my illustrations the fascination and the curiosity of a child towards the open space and something she sees daily but still finds mysterious.
6. Why is “Mommy, Mommy, Where Is The Moon?” suitable for your little one?
It’s a great book for learning why the Moon sometimes disappears and plays Peek-a-Boo. After I read the book, my daughter and I started to play the same games like in the book 🙂
7. Do you have any advice for aspiring illustrators?
If you wish to be successful at drawing, I can only say one thing and that is ‘ You should practise at least half an hour every single day.’
8. What are your must-haves when illustrating?
For drawing Procreate App and for editing Photoshop.
9. What are you currently working on?
Currently I am working on 2 other children’s books.
10. How can authors contact you?
